What it is…
Blood cancers such as leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, myeloma and myelodysplastic syndromes are cancers that originate in the bone marrow or lymphatic tissues. They are considered to be related cancers because they involve the uncontrolled growth of cells with similar functions and origins. The diseases result from an acquired genetic injury to the DNA of a single cell, which becomes abnormal (malignant) and multiplies continuously. The accumulation of malignant cells interferes with the body’s production of healthy blood cells.
Who we are helping…
In January 2010, we are supporting Katarina Cuvalo and her journey with Team In Training to participate in the Lavaman Olympic TRIATHLON coming up this March! A portion of the proceeds from all the events that occur in January will be donated to her which will be added to her fundraising amount that she needs in order to participate. Katarina is fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – another wonderful organization trying to find the cure for cancer of the blood. You can help support her by attending our events this month or going online to purchase products at our online store!
